Clomid is one of the names given to the fertility drug called Clomifene Citrate. One of the indications for this medication is inability or failure to ovulate. Ovulation failure could result from many causes including the polycystic ovarian syndrome. Used singly or in combination with other medications, Clomid has been found to be of help.
Mode of Action

How long is it taken for?
Usually, most women go through a five-six drug cycle of treatment. Each treatment starts about 4-5 days into your cycle. Well, before you run to your doctor, it is pertinent to know that it could take one to two months of treatment before your body takes over naturally and you start ovulating again.
As a precautionary measure and to improve effectiveness, doctors advise that you watch weight while on Clomid. If you are found to be overweight, your doctor might advise you to lose weight.
How much does it help?
Like with any other medication, there is no rule of thumb. The good thing however is that you can expect quite some help from the use of Clomid. Success rates of 70% have been reported in restoration or stimulation of ovulation while pregnancy rates are not that good. The rates reported range from 13 -25%.
