The 5 second rule. Is it correct?

Last night I watched the finale of the Next Food Network Star on the Food Network Channel. It’s not really my thing but my mother had me watching the marathon during the day so I kind of got into it.

It was ok, I guess. But the series that showed after is what really had me.

It’s called Food Detectives and I found it to be very insightful. Basically the show answers all the food questions that you have; all the myths you’ve heard and have been wondering about.

Take for example the 5 second rule. Most of us should know this one. Your food drops on the floor and we think that we have at least 5 seconds to pick it up before it gets all contaminated with bacteria (c’mon admit it. You’ve either done that or at least thought about it.) What the detectives proved is that the 5 sec rule is very inaccurate. Even before you can count to 5, your food will have accumulated a good set of bacteria.

The next question they answered is How do I stop my mouth from burning after I’ve eaten spicy food? I actually knew the question to this one through my personal experiences. The answer…. milk or in my case a milkshake. One evening I was eating a chicken wrap thing and it was very spicy. My mouth was on fire actually. I reached for the closest thing to me which was my milkshake. I took a big gulp and immediately the burning stopped. I actually felt quite smart about the fact that I knew the answer.

It also debunks the theory of baking soda being placed in the fridge. Now I’m not gonna give up that secret so you have to check it out when it airs again tomorrow at 9:00 pm.

Watch it, I highly recommend it.

My Song Of The Week

Like some people, I was first introduced to Josh Kelley via his wife, actress Katherine Heigl. Despite my general dislike of her, I always said I would give his music a listen (I like to broaden my musical horizons and listen to musicians away from the mainstream thing). I was pleasantly surprised by his voice, his bluesy type songs and his lyrical content.

His album, Special Company, is a strong album and I was able to relate or be moved by most of the songs. Here’s the video to one of my favourites

Outfit I’m feeling + Gossip Girl’s Affect on Teen Fashion

I’m travelling next week thursday. I’m going to be in Montreal for 4 weeks (I’ll miss you guys and my blog). So I’ve been looking through my closet for something to wear. I must look good right. I’ve been hitting a block. I want to be comfy but not sweat pants comfy. Fashionable but I don’t want to look as if I’m trying to hard. I feel best in jeans so I was thinking about going with that. I saw these pictures of Rachel Bilson out and about recently and I just felt a light come on. Simple? Check. Comfy? Check. Rachel always has this cool sense of style. She can look so california cool and then switch it up and look absolutely amazing on the red carpet. And that’s one of the things I like about her. So I have now added this look to the list of my many looks. Hopefully I can decide what to wear.

My Song Of The Week

My song of the week come from a great artist called Sam Sparro. Most people I talk to have no clue who he is and up until a couple of weeks ago, I didn’t either. The song is called Black and Gold. I must admit that I wasn’t too fond on the song at first but now I can’t stop listening to him. His sound is a mix of funk with a techno beat and I love it. So hope you enjoy.

If you can’t tell from the title, this is a totally non-fashion related post.

It’s just that I can’t wait to watch Pineapple Express. It’s another Apatow movie so you know you’re going to enjoy it (I mean how great was Superbad?) It stars Seth Rogen and my future husband (hey a girl can dream) James Franco.

Here’s the plot summary from IMDB:

Lazy stoner Dale Denton has only one reason to visit his equally lazy dealer Saul Silver: to purchase weed, specifically, a rare new strain called Pineapple Express. But when Dale becomes the only witness to a murder by a crooked cop and the city’s most dangerous drug lord, he panics and dumps his roach of Pineapple Express at the scene. Dale now has another reason to visit Saul: to find out if the weed is so rare that it can be traced back to him. And it is. As Dale and Saul run for their lives, they quickly discover that they’re not suffering from weed-fueled paranoia; incredibly, the bad guys really are hot on their trail and trying to figure out the fastest way to kill them both. All aboard the Pineapple Express.
